  1. This section will cover those SCSI Adapters that tend to act
  2. erratically when you access Scout-EM.  Adaptec makes a *Device
  3. Driver* (SCSIHA.SYS) for the Adaptec 1540/1542 controller cards and
  4. is available from their BBS at (408) 945-7727.  It is also included
  5. here with SCOUT-EM versions 5.x and above.  This device driver must
  6. be placed at the first line of your *CONFIG.SYS* file.  It must
  7. even go before any of the memory managers currently on the market
  8. like 386MAX v.5.0, QEMM, Above, etc.

  10. Here is an example of how your file should look:

  12.                -----> *  1. Device= C:\SCSIHA.SYS /V386 /B16 
  13.                          2. Device= c:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS
  14.                          3. Files= 20
  15.                          4. Buffers =20
  16.                          5. Device=c:\dos\ansi.sys

  18. This will not only make SCOUT-EM operate properly, it also permits
  19. you to have one set of autoexec abd config.sys files to run
  20. ***WINDOWS*** applications.  That's right, with this device driver
  21. in place you can run Windows 3.0 and all compatible programs
  22. without using the Himem.Sys and SmartDrv.Sys files.
